Cationic sesbania(CSG) was prepared via sesbania gum(SG) as raw materials,3-chloro-2-(hydroxypropyl) trimethylammonium chloride(CHPAC) as cationic etherifyingagent in alkaline condition through organic solvent method. Through single factorexperiments and orthogonal experiment, the best synthesis conditions were as follows: themass fraction of isopropanol as dispersing agent is90%、n(NaOH):n(SG) is0.3、n(CHPAC):n(SG) is0.5、alkalization time is50min、alkalization temperature is15℃、etherification time is4.5h、etherification temperature is50℃. The structure of CSG wascharacterized by IR and1H-NMR.Viscosity of CSG water solution which measured byrheometer decreases with the increase of shear rate. This indicated CSG solution ispseudoplastic fluid and decreases with the increase of the cationic degree of CSG. CSG wasapplicated into shampoo and the wet and dry combing capability of hair were tested. Theresult showed that the optimum amount of CSG in shampoo is0.5%. The wet and drycombing capability gets better as the cationic degree of CSG increases. The properties ofCSG and commercial cationic guar gum were compared through dry and wet combingcapability, silicone oil deposition, foaming properties, viscosity stability. The results showedthat the properties of CSG are close to that of cationic guar gum, but silicone oil deposition ofCSG is weaker than that of cationic guar gum.The dissolution of CSG dispersed in an ionic liquid BmimCl was observed bypolarization microscopy. The chemical structure of regenerated CSG analysised through IR、XRD、TG didn’t change. So BmimCl can be used as a good solvent for CSG. Cationicsesbania gum cinnamic acid ester(CSG-CM) was prepared by the esterification between CSGand cinnamoyl chloride(CM). The reaction was performed in BmimCl with triethylamine ascatalyst. Through single factor experiments and orthogonal experiment, the best synthesisconditions were as follows: n(triethylamine):n(CM) is2.4, n(CM):n(CSG) is1.25, reactiontemperature is90℃, reaction time is9h. The structure of CSG-CM was characterized by IRand1HNMR. CSG-CM water solution is pseudoplastic fluid and its viscosity is significantlyhigher than that of CSG in the same concentration. CSG-CM has strong UV absorption abilityin240~330nm wavelength and the maximum absorption wavelength is283nm. Light andthermal stability of CSG-CM are good. When CSG-CM adsorpted to the hair, it caneffectively reduce the damage of UVB to the hair. The appearance of shampoo addedCSG-CM doesn’t change after a recurring thermal cycling test. This indicated that CSG-CMhas good compatibility in shampoo.
