Abstract:To improve the ability of cigarette to retain moisture for the mouth feel, we use DVS (Dynamic Vapor Sorption System) and theories of adsorption isotherm to study the relation between the internal structure and moisturizing effect of the different tobacco leaves. Then we can formulating the suitable unctuous humectants and consider the applied research. The main contents of the research are followed:1. Established a method to study the moisturizing effect of various tobacco leaves by the dynamic moisture sorption analyzer. The results showed that:The isothermal sorption and desorption behavior of cut rags of upper, middle and lower leaves was basically the same; The isothermal sorption and desorption behavior of cut rags of strips, expanded tobacco and expanded stem differed significantly; under the same conditions the expanded stem lost more moisture, but cut tobacco lost less, the ability to retain moisture of the cut tobacco is much more better than the others’; Compared with the traditional method, the method to determine the moisturizing effect by DVS is a simple, convenient, accurate and reliable technique.2. The isothermal sorption and desorption behavior of various tobacco leaves was studied by the IGA analyzer. The results showed that:The existence of macropore was found in stem internal structure which can cause the capillary condensation, but no micropore exists; the Leaf has the micropores distribution, as well as the mesopore and macropore, the average size of microporous section is about1.1nm; commpared to the stem, the leaf has a better ability to fasten the water due to the material which can be adsorbed by microporous is not easy to disperse; Adsorption of expanded cut tobacco of N2can be regarded as no adsorption; reconstituted tobacco(RT) adsorption isotherm trend is similar to cut tobacco, adsorption amount of the import RT is less than the domestic RT; comprehensive tobacco samples of N2, H2O and CO2adsorption data can be seen, the cut tobacco samples is with strong selective absorption of H2O.3. Observe the moisturizing effect of different formulas of the unctuous humectants which is applied in tobacco leaves. Found that the moisturizing effect of the humectants which is formulated with a vegetable oil as the main componet is much better; the moisturizing effect in the application of the expanded cut tobacco and RT can be showed, but the smoking results of RT which has been added the humectant is not satisfactory, adding amount and adding method need to be further researched; found that the process of adding humectant is not affected by the drying process.
