The rocks surrounding deep laneways deform considerably, even collapse due to thebrittle-ductile transition characteristics. So it is of great significance to explore the feasible shapeof deep roadway and to investigate the effective supporting measures in mining engineering. Thestability rocks surrounding deep roadways has been studied using numerical method in this paperfrom three aspects below.Firstly, to search for a reasonable cross section of a deep roadway the displacement andstress fields in rocks surrounding deep roadways with different bottom corner radii and differentaspect ratios have been calculated. A comparison study shows that the degree of stressconcentration at the bottom corners decreases with the increase of the fillet radius and that thedisplacement at the vault of the arch with three centers reaches a lower value when the aspectratio keeps between1.5-4.Secondly, to investigate the effects of pre-stressed anchors on the stability of rockssurrounding deep laneways a large number of finite element models with different numbers ofpre-stressed anchors have been established and the displacement and stress fields have beenobtained. The results show that the pre-stressed anchors fitted at the bottom corners and alongthe vault have stronger effects on the displacement and stress fields. Within a certain rangeincreasing the number of the anchor and their pre-stress will relieve the degree of stressconcentration of the surrounding rocks.Thirdly, the isotropic and anisotropic numerical models of deep roadway have been built forinvestigating how the digging procedure and the lining supports affect the roadway’s stability. The displacement and stress fields of surrounding rocks at different digging stage have beencalculated. Results show that the deformation and stress of surrounding rocks will increase whilekeep digging but the increasing tend gradually ease even stable at the e nd. The lining supportscould effectively relieve the deformation and stress concentration in surrounding rocks...
