Compression molding is one of important methods for metal processing.Pros a-nd cons of the clamping unit of die-casting machine affect not only the productionefficiency but also product quality directly. The smaller stroke and the larger power-enlarge ratio about the clamping unit can actively low the energy consumptions andreduce covering area. When the clamping unit is designed, ways of optimization design are partly more accurate than previous designing ways which rely on experien-ce,analysis and approximate calculating.In this article,an analysis of motional and mechanical characteristics for optim-ization design for joint-double clamping unit of compression molding machine, is m-ade by structure method,systematically making establishment of motional and mech-anical model which includes the oil cylinder stroke,the moving mold board stroke,ratio of stroke,the moving mold board velocity, the oil cylinder velocity, the speedvariation coefficient, the force of clamping, the power-enlarge ratio, the pushing for-ce of closure oil cylinder,etc. Based on above, optimization to the clamping unitof die-casting machine has been produced.During optimization design for joint-double clamping unit,power-enlarge ratioand the sum of stroke are regarded as the objective function in all multiple objecti-ve functions,other objectives functions are convert into constraint conditions. Thenaccording to the established mathematical model, the analysis of the relationship bet-ween the parameters of the joint-double clamping unit and power-enlarge ratio canensure the needed design variables of optimization design. In this paper, the linearweighted method is used to convert the multiple problem to the single objective p-roblem. Then an optimal solution is easily obtained through MATLAB optimal toolbox, that is without making lots of program. Compared with before optimization,outcomes of optimization is better.After the use of Pro/E and ADAMS combination to develop the virtual prototy-pe of the joint-double clamping unit, the motion curve is obtained by simulation. Based on above, the optimized mold clamping unit has good speed and accelerationperformance.
