In recent years, considerable advancement has been achieved in China’s molybdenum ore processing technology. In practice, because of producing large slimes in a crushed and ground ore, sodium silicate is widely used as gangue depressant and dispersant especially for silicates. It not only has good dispersion, but also enhances the Inhibition effect for the silicate gangue minerals and improves mineralization of the bubble, so that molybdenite attaches to the bubbles very well. It is beneficial for flotation. However, huge dosages of sodium silicate makes the tailing water unsinkable and recycled water can’t be used. For this problem, classification floatation was discussed in this thesis. After crushing and grinding, explorative experiments were carried out to determine the optimum classification size. Then we carried out flotation experiments resceptively. We have performed a series of floatation experiments with the purpose of determining the appropriate flotation flow, technologcial conditions and reagent system. Flotation experiments without splitting loaded with YZ system give molybdenum concentrate with molybdenum grade46.5%, recovery47.65%when the grinding fineness is-0.074mm of raw ore65%, pH of pulp is8.6, sodium sulfide dosages is200g/t, sodium silicate dosages is8kg/t, YZ dosages in roughing is180g/t and in scavenging is90g/t, turpentine dosages is150g/t and in scavenging is75g/t, roughing flotation time is4minutes, cleaner flotation time is2.5minutes, scavenging flotation time is2.5minutes. Molybdenum concentrate with molybdenum grade46.78%, recovery48.58%could be obtained by floatating the three splitting fractions+0.074mm,-0.074mm+0.037mm and-0.037mm loaded with YZ. Compared with two flotation results, we found sodium silicate dosages with splitting flotation is half of without splitting flotation. Flotation experiments without splitting loaded with butylxanthate system give molybdenum concentrate with molybdenum grade45.6%, recovery50.48%under the appropriate conditions. Molybdenum concentrate with molybdenum grade46.24%, recovery51.70%could be obtained by floatating the three splitting fractions+0.074mm,-0.074mm+0.037mm and-0.037mm loaded with butylxanthate. Compared with two flotation results, we found sodium silicate dosages3.27kg/t with splitting flotation is less than half of without splitting flotation. Moreover, contrast tests on tailing sedimentation show that under the same experimental conditions, the average settling rate of the tailings from open circuit with splitting flotation is0.435cm/min and0.498cm/min, but the tailings from without splitting flotation can’t nearly settle. So the problem of tailing settlement difficulties is obviously improved. From this splitting floatation was effective to minish the harmness of fine particle to the poor ore. Moreover, it can improve the mill environment, the safety of the tailings dam and the condition of water used for concentration.
