Support medium is one of the most critical elements of bioreactor for waste gas,which will affect the performance of system directly.In this thesis,a pilot scale biotrickling filter(BTF)was installed and the determination of the packing materials’ characteristic was established for evaluation of polyhedral hollow spheres,burr spheres and polyhedral hollow column.In ordor to investigate the removal performance of contaminant,toluene and ethanol were selected as the target pollutants.The experimental results indicated that,the all three packing materials were quite suitable for packing media because of their light weight,high porosity,reasonable structure,high water holding,and hydrophilic surface. The performance of polyhedral hollow spheres was quite good comparatively.The start-up time of BTF with polyhedral hollow spheres, burr spheres and polyhedral hollow column was 8 d,11 d,and 6 d.The different BTF’s elimination capacity of toluene was 87.49,64.30,93.52 g/(m~3·h),and 105.43,93.03,116.91g/(m~3·h)of ethanol.The biomass of polyhedral hollow spheres was most in the normal operation,they were 13.63 kg/m~3(dry)and 340.91 kg/m~3(wet)respectively.Polyhedral hollow spheres’ resistance coefficient of the gas stream was lowest after start-up, the value was 13860.The experiment showed burr spheres or polyhedral hollow column is prone to clogging,and anti-clogging performance of polyhedral hollow spheres is excellent.Hydrophilic organic substances were less affected by clogging than hydrophobic one.The performance of biotrickling filter with "polyhedral hollow spheres+ polyhedral hollow column" mixed media was better than single media.Furthermore,the contaminant elimination was affected by empty bed residence time(EBRT)and inlet loading dramatically.But the cycled liquid flow influences the removal efficiency hardly.The optimal EBRT was 21.11 s,the maximum elimination capacity of toluene was 123.34 g/(m~3·h)and the most suitable liquid/gas ratio was 6.82 L/m~3.The article discussed the biomass control methods and the recover after non-use at last.
