With the rapid development of remote sensing technology peop1e have acquired agreat deal of remote sensing (RS) image dare. How to extract the objects that peopleinterested from these images has become the problem to which people have paid moreand more attention. But the traditional methods couldn't satisfy the people'srequirementS already On the other hand, the raPid development of GeograPhicInformation System (GIS) provides a poweffol geography data manage platform topeople: The database of GIS contains a great deal of spatial data and attribute data,and a great quantity of knowledge that people didn't discovered existing in these data.How to mine the knowledge from GIS database and take full advanage of it is theproblem that people are most concerned about.This paper setS about from the characteristic, advantage and developmentrequirement of RS and GlS respectively RS image analysis with GIS assisted isstudied with emphasis based on discuss the integration of RS and GIS. ThetechnoIogy of SpeciaI Data Mining and KnowIedge Discovery (SDM&KDD) isresearched and analyzed in details. Inductive Learning and Rough Sets Theory areintroduced into knowledge discover of GIS database and are adopted to realizeAnowledge discover from GIS database. Knowledge is expressed by production rules.AnowIedge base and ruIe base which assist RS image anaIysis are built according tothe extracted knowledge. The knowledge is used to assist RS image classificationexperiment and good result is reached. The experiment result showed that the methodis an effective wny.At last, the paper dissertates the bui1d of a RS image analysis experiment system(GRIPAS) with GIS assisted. The system realized the basic function of RS imageprocess. The stUdy result has very important application value, fOr examples, inbuilding RS and GIS integration system, in resource dynamic supervision, andcalamity supervision and object changed eva1uation etc.
