Design And Implementation Of Map Publishing Symbol Libraries

Map symbols are graphical marks that represent various space objects, or include annotations, which cooperate with them. Map symbol is very important to express map content. It is a main characteristic that map is differing from other image representation of geographical environment. Map symbol with fine quality is the precondition that enrich map content, tone up the legibility of map, convenient for editing of map.Nowadays both GIS software and cartographic software have their own symbol base, but seldom of them take the characteristic of the map publish into account. Through the a nalysis of the current research in this field the article introduces the key technologies of the symbol base in the digital publish system: design of symbol editing software, the realization of color management and multiplicate modes display of symbol.In this article the category and the function of map symbol variables are analyzed from the point of view of map language. On the base of deep study on the rule of composition of a picture and the structure theory of point line area symbols, a storage data structure of symbol base is designed. And a structure of program class is also designed by means of Object_Oriented Design. Finally an experiment system and the results are introduced simply, and some farther problem to research and solve right along is put forward.
