Without the restriction of weather and sight conditons, the gyro has been widely used in orientation in many areas. But the common optical-mechanical gyroscope theodolite have the disadvantages of great labour intensity and time-consuming in the process of orientation . How to increase the speed and reduce labor intensity without reducing the accuracy of orientation is still worthy of researching.By analysising the state equation of gyro movement ,a method called timing tracking is put forward in this paper and some experiments are done to verify the method. The results show that the timing tracking method can not only improve the precision but increase the speed of orientation. With this method and some optoelectronic and -information technique, the gyroscope automation theodolite modified from common gyroscope theodolite is designed, which does not change the internal structure of the gyroscope theodolite.1,This paper focuses on the state equation of gyro movement and have a detailed description on the principle and method of the timing tracking, and some experiments are done to prove the feasibility of the method .2,Based on the timing tracking method, the techniques such as CCD sensor, microcontroller, servo motor are introduced in this system, the case of the program of gyroscope automation theodolite rehabilitation is designed.3,According to specific requirements ,the right hardwares are selected and the circuit is designed.4,The data-processing module is compiled. The function which tracks the cursor automately is completed preliminary.
