The difference of light polarization in space is used by spatial polarization encoding and decoding technique to make the light contain position information. Both horizontal information and vertical information is needed. The key technique is the combination of the horizontal and vertical information. A technique that is used to encode and decode two-dimensional polarized signal, which is generated by laser, is studied. After studying the characteristic of the polarized signal, a method of two-dimensional signal encoding is proposed. According to the principle of polarized light detection and the character of two-dimensional signal, a system to receive and decode signal is set up, including hardware and software. A single chip microcomputer is used as the core chip in the hardware circuit, performing an important function in each module, such as filter-amplifier, analog to digital converter, data processing and display, along with step motor driving module. An algorithm to decode the polarized laser signal is achieved in the software system. Besides, a method to distinguish the two-dimensional signal is given. The relevant hardware and software are debugged and optimized. Under the laboratory condition, the polarized optical signal is detected and the errors possibly existing in the experiment are analyzed. The results show that the method of encoding and decoding two-dimensional polarized signal is feasible and the results meet the system requirements.
