D4S(Design for Sustainability):Sustainable design comes from the concept of "sustainable development". The human beings directly rely on the energy resources and material resources condition become worsening day by day, and the design in the whole social development process plays an very important responsibility, That the appearance of a series of problems, prompted people to reflect on the design, the concept of sustainable design also arises at the historic moment under this background.This topic is based on the D4S (Design for Sustainability) theory, the analysis of the actual application of bamboo as a sustainable material value and the significance, focuses on the theoretical method was applied to the Sustainability Design of bamboo material furniture, for the practical application of the theory put forward the feasible solution. In addition, summarized the domestic and foreign theories about D4S, bamboo material, bamboo industry, bamboo furniture, and new bamboo material furniture technology and research results, is an essential prerequisite for the study. On this basis, this topic through literature research, case analysis, SWOT analysis and questionnaire survey methods, etc,based on the theory of D4S furniture product design of bamboo materials for the following research:Firstly, this paper introduces the general situation of D4S theory and analysis of bamboo and bamboo industry, using SWOT analysis method, conducting a comprehensive analysis of the summary to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges of bamboo industry. Clarify the current situation of bamboo industry and is suitable for the bamboo materials furniture enterprise certification and related laws and regulations, the analysis of the value of bamboo industry as sustainable design resource.Secondly, study the design characteristics of bamboo furniture products, method, process, and bamboo material furniture product design case analysis, put forward bamboo sustainable design theory applied in the field of furniture products strategy and evaluation method.Finally, through the Demonstration of bamboo furniture product innovation desi-gn to analyze and verify.In short, sustainable design is the important trend of design. At present, in the application of domestic and international sustainable design theory, the bamboo furniture design has not a complete theory of sustainable design strategy. So, this research aims to study the D4S theory application in the field of bamboo furniture product design, build sustainable bamboo furniture product design strategy and method. It has an important guiding significance for the development of the bamboo industry and bamboo furniture products. It can effectively improve the utilization of bamboo raw materials. It can save energy consumption and the ecological cost. It can promote China’s bamboo industry and bamboo furniture improving international competitiveness of products, and promote the growth of economic.
