Nano materials have a great potential application prospect in catalyst, photoelectric device, photoelectric effect and sensors for its quantum size effect, surface effect, macroscopic quantum tunnel effect and so on. Bismuth-based semiconductor materials have received the extensive attention of the researchers for its excellent optical absorption ability, unique electronic structures and excellent photocatalytic degradation properties. Because of physical and chemical properties of nano materials dependent on their morphology and size, a series of bismuth semiconductor materials with different morphology and size have been synthesized via facile methods. Specific contents are as follows:(1) The brick-based and rod-based flowerlike, bundle-and dendrite-shaped α-Bi2O3 microcrystallites aggregated by nanorods were prepared, respectively, by changing the volume ratio of DMF/H2O from the reaction between Bi(NO3)3 and KOH, where Bi(NO3)3 and KOH were dissolved in DMF and H2O. The simple synthetic route and thus obtained Bi2O3 architectures of various morphologies provide a basis insight for their formation mechanism. The results showed that the dendrite-shaped α-Bi2O3 microcrystallite shows a excellent photocatalytic properties of the degradation of RhB under visible light.(2) Highly dispersed egg-tart shaped Bi2O2CO3 hierarchical nanostructures assembled by ultrathin nanosheets have been prepared in ammonia water via a hydrothermal route by using bismuth citrate as a single precursor. The concentration of ammonia water plays a crucial role in the formation of well-defined Bi2O2CO3 hollow nanostructures. The obtained egg-tart shaped Bi2O2CO3 hierarchical nanostructures exhibit excellent photocatalytic activity for RhB degradation under UV light irradiation and possess good photochemical stability and durability.(3) The ultralong HCOOBiO nanowires (NWs) with a diameter of 20 nm and length up to several hundred micrometers have been prepared in DMF solution via a solvothermal route, where DMF served as both solvent and one of the precursors. The high aspect ratio offers nanowires with large porosity and good dispersion in water. Besides, the ultralong HCOOBiO NWs possess positively charged surface. All these endow them simple a good performance in removal anionic species in water including Cr(VI) and MO, respectively. Moreover, HCOOBiO NWs also exhibit enhanced photocatalytic performance for RhB degradation.
