Copper tubes, as a high value-added profiles product, occupy an important position in national economic development. The processing method includes: extrusion method, horizontal continuous casting method, upward casting method and welding method. Among which, the horizontal continuous casting process is short, high efficiency and its production with high quality. Therefore, this paper studied the copper tubes which produced by horizontal continuous casting. Analyzes three aspects which defect formation mechanism of copper tubes, the design principle of tube billet horizontal continuous casting crystallizer and the horizontal continuous casting process parameters.Copper tubes produced by the horizontal continuous casting have many defects which include crack, porosity, foreign bodies, shrinkage, cold traps, rough surface and inner pull road, oxidation. The result of defects mechanism shows that the formation of defects is mainly affected by the structure of the crystallizer and horizontal continuous casting process parameters.The crystallizer is the most critical component of the horizontal continuous casting lines. Its rationality of the crystallizer structure directly affects the quality of the copper tubes. This paper designed a crystallizer based on the copper tube of Φ90×25mm. And then calculate the crystallizer length is 380 mm. The inner diameter of graphite coat is 92 mm. The wall thickness of graphite coat is 14 mm. The diameter of liquid injection hole is 10 mm. The number of liquid injection hole is 4. The core taper is 1°. The diameter of core inlet is 47.37 mm. The diameter of core outlet is 36 mm. The thickness of the mold base is 45 mm. And establishment analysis system by visual basic. At last, verify the rationality of this crystallizer through the production.On the basis of the designed crystallizer, observe the change of the temperature field of horizontal continuous casting process by numerical simulation techniques. The result of the simulation shows that it can produce the qualified copper tube when the casting temperature is set as 1160℃, primary and secondary cooling water’s temperature difference is 30℃, use the pull-stop-push-stop’s mode and its pull distance is 9.5mm, its pull time is 0.8s, its first stop time is 0.5s, its push distance is 1.5mm, its push time is 0.4s, its second stop time is 0.5s. At last, verify the accuracy of this simulation result through the production.The TP2 copper tube’s microstructure is dense and the element content accords with GB standard. Its Micro Vickers is 51HV5/5~57HV5/5. Its tensile strength is 170 MPa. Its extension rate is 30%. Its thermal conductivity is ( )3.61 W cm ×k.
