Pipe intersecting structure has been widely applied in large architectural construction such asrailway station, terminal building and exhibition hall owing to its stable structure and artisticappearance. Along with the increasing improvement of aesthetic demand, pipe intersecting types arebecoming more and more diversified. The arcuate pipe is favored by increasing number ofdesigners because of its curvy beauty. However, there are still many technical problems in cuttingarcuate pipe intersecting line directly. Thus, steel structure companies have to employ alternativemethods to cut arcuate pipe intersecting line, which always results in that the arcuate pipes cannotbe applied in engineering because of large space error, and the reduction in assembling quality ofjoints and even huge financial losses. Therefore, researching on a kind of valid cutting method andcutting machine for arcuate pipe intersecting line cutting has important practical significance.This study firstly analyzes the development status of intersecting line cutting techniques andmachine, lists the major technical problems in the research of arcuate pipe intersecting line cutting,points out the weakness of traditional space analytic geometry method in calculating arcuate pipeintersecting line model, proposes a new method and discusses several kinds of intersecting linemodeling techniques and cutting algorithm. This method employssecondary development technique of UG to extract discrete data points of arcuate pipe intersectingline, employs trajectory reverse method to fit arcuate pipe intersecting line and thus obtain itstrajectory expression and thus to elicit the calculation method of each cutting parameters,.Secondly, this study discusses employing five-axis machine tool with double rotaryspindle heads to generate the manufacturing procedure of arcuate pipe intersecting line cutting,building on the structure, proposes to use double quasi uniform B-spline to interpolate the pose ofcutting torch. Meanwhile, analyzes the calculation methods of arc height tolerance of interpolationtrajectory and then proposes a modified arc approximation method to control thearc height tolerance, thus determine the interpolation control algorithm of arcuate pipe intersectingline cutting. After that, this study conducts simulation of the interpolation algorithm with Matlab,the results show that the interpolation algorithm can be used in the interpolation of the pose ofcutting torch.Finally, this study employs UG NX8.0and Vericut7.2to conduct five-axis linkage simulationof curved pipe intersecting line cutting, finishes the trajectory planning of cutting torch and verifiesits accuracy through simulation in UG NX8.0, then obtains the NC program of the movement poseof cutting torch with post-processor module in UG, establishes the cutting machine tool in Vericut7.2, which is a multi-axis NC simulation software, and finishes the cutting simulation of themovement pose of cutting torch. The NC program has been proved to be valid with the Auto-Differmodule in Vericut7.2.The generation method of arcuate pipe intersecting line, the movement pose of cutting torch ofarcuate pipe intersecting line, the double quasi uniform B-spline interpolation control algorithm inthis study provide guidance for the engineering application of arcuate pipe intersecting linedirectly-cutting techniques.
