The coupler knuckle, as the important part of a coupler, has complicated structure. Traditional coupler knuckle mold design and manufacturing mainly depends on the designer’s experience, whether the design and processing are reasonable or not is determined by model test.,which greatly increases the cost of the mould design,and is difficult to guarantee the quality of mould.while the application of computer simulation processing technique could greatly improve the efficiency of mould processing and quality of mould,saving the cost.At first, The paper designs the coupler knuckle forgings based on the coupler knuckle structure characteristics and working environment. get the 3D model cavity from mould.form dying the forgings,based on the Pro/E platform.Then, study the processing technology of the mold cavity and design a cavity machining method. Based on UG/CAM platform, programming the NC program for the whole process, get the NC series which is suitable to Taiwan Joe MV-40 CNC machining center, through the post-processing. After that create MV-40 type machining center platform for the virtual machining system, to realize the simulation of mould machining process in VERICUT. Through the collision detection, ensure the correctness of the machine tool, cutting tool,the space between jigs in the actual processing, and research mold processing feed way, tool path generation method for optimal selection.Finally,aiming at maximum machining efficiency, establish the optimization model treat every tooth cutting speed and feed design as design variables. Optimize the cutting parameters of mold cavity of the coupler knuckle forgings getting the optimal parameters of the processing, based on the genetic algorithm. Using a good simulation platform for processing simulation shows that the Machining efficiency increases by nearly 20% than the experience value, which improves the quality of processing of the work piece at the same time.
