Coal liquefaction residues are a mixture with high carbon, high ash and high sullfur contents, the residue takes about 30% of all products. It includes a small amount of unreacted coal and inorganic minerals of coal and some catalysts. If they were poured out into the environment, which can waste the resource and pollute the environment. Taking account of the economy and environment, it is significant to make effective use of residues and it has a large potential value regarded as a new material in the future research.In this paper, firstly, seven different solvent were regarded as extract solvents, wash oil (coal tar) and coal liquefied oil were selected as the extraction solvent for research. By changing temperature, ratio of solvent to residue, plates aperture, it is found that Shanxi wash oils and liquefied oil showed extraction rate of 61.7% and 54.7%(daf) for the residue at 30~18O℃ and 180~190℃,1 micron pore size filter plate and 3:1-5:1 or 2:1-4:1 ratio of the solvent to residue respectively. The primary and secondary factors influencing the extraction were extraction temperature, extraction solvent and ratio of the solvent to residue by orthogonal experiment.By elemental analysis, component analysis, TG analysis and (FTIR), it is found:the extract hydrogen to carbon ratio increased and the sulfur content reduced to reach the rich oil desulfurization purposes; The pitch contains no or very small amount of the phenolic hydroxyl group, a small amount of carbonyl group and a certain amount of aromatic functional group; Oils and asphalt alkenes concentrated in the extract, accounting for about 95.5% and the bitumen quinoline insoluble content and ash accounted for about 4% and 0.5%.The potential value of the liquefaction asphalt as a charcoal dry binder was studied in this paper, charcoal briquette, carbonization, activation experiment were carried out. The iodine value, activation yield and the yield of screening of the high-temperature pitch and coal liquefaction pitch are similar, but the intensity, coal liquefaction pitch is poor.Finally, the raffinate that was used to blending the permeable is researched. It is found that using residue raffinate, clay, alumina to blend the permeable, the content of the residue raffinate can reach up to 25% and all indexes except compression strength can reach the target. When only residue raffinate and the clay were used to blending the permeable, all indexes can meet the requirements.
