The contact pressure of tire-pavement is directly related to the life of tire and pavement and the driving safety. The contact pressure model in the designing of road is usually assumed to be dual circular-uniform pressure, but the actual loading of the tire on the pavement is complex, and it has a major impact on the mechanical behavior of pavement. So the tire contact pressure model is established based on the finite element and equivalent energy method in this article. The model is convenient for engineering applications. The distribution of tire-pavement contact pressure under actual traffic conditions is studied. And the equivalent factor of transforming the 3D contact model to the circular uniform pressure model is proposed. This study provides the simplified loading model for pavement design.Firstly, a common 11.00R20 radial tire and the asphalt pavement system 3D FEM are established using the software of ABAQUS. In the model, geometry nonlinearity and material nonlinearity of the tire are considered, and the pavement is visco-elastic layer system, and the connection between the tire and pavement is nonlinear contact.And then, the tire-pavement contact pressure distribution of the smooth tire under static, drive, brake and freely rolling conditions is analyzed. The 3D distribution of contact pressure is established using the MATLAB. The effects of loading and tire pressure on tire vertical, longitudinal and lateral contact pressure distribution under pure rolling condition are studied. And the analytic function of vertical contact pressure model is established which is based on the double exponential model.Further, the 3D contact pressure is equivalent to the circular uniform contact pressure which is based on equivalent energy method. The equivalent pressure coefficients under different loading and tire pressure are calculated. The rationality of established equivalent conversion pressure is evaluated through comparing the pavement response of two pressure model.Finally, a radial tire FEM with longitudinal tread is established to analyze the tire-pavement contact pressure distribution under static, drive, brake and freely rolling conditions. The impact of loading and tire pressure on the contact pressure is studied. The pressure of smooth tire and patterned tire are compared. The equivalent circular uniform tread tire-pavement contact pressure coefficient is calculated too.
