With the rapid economic development and urbanization, more and more contaminated sites arose in China due to industrial plants relocation in the past few decades. The remediation and reuse of these contaminated sites have attracted broad attention from government, scientists, and general public. As we know contaminated site remediation is a complicated process ranging from contaminated site investigation, risk assessment, monitoring, remediation technology selection, to remediation implementation. In this process, a lot of technical and engineering problems, such as multiple types of information management, multiple assessment model application and multiple attribute decision making are involved. Therefore, it is meaningful and necessary to develop a decision support system(DSS) that aims to solve the above-mentioned problems.In this thesis, the information management and remediation technology selection techniques are firstly studied through reviewing previous literatures and software package about site risk assessment and/or remediation, especially the newly published national technical guide of contaminated site remediation. Meanwhile, a DSS is designed and developed, where the system implementation is based on C# language and Arc Engine GIS component platform associated with SQL Server-2008. The main contents of this thesis include:(1)the principles and basic processes of contaminated site investigation, risk assessment and remediation technology decision, along with information management and classifications;(2) the software requirement analysis and system design, including function design, module design, process design, database design, and the remediation technology decision;(3) implementation and coding of the DSS, especially the three main functions, contaminated site information management, risk assessment, and remediation technology decision;(4)an application of the system to Cr contaminated site, Hai Bei chemical plant, including the input of site information and management, remediation technology selection.It is concluded that the system presented in this thesis plays a supporting role during the contaminated site remediation and alleviates technicians’ burden in decision making. However, there is some short coming in data storage and assessment and selection model. The future work should concern the geographic information storage mode, the richness of assessment models, 3D visualization and interpolation, and multiple objective decisions for remediation selection.
