The paper industry is a traditional industry. Refining, as an important unit of the papermaking process, has a great potential for energy saving and optimization. Many paper plants are interested in medium consistence(MC) refining because it conforms to the characteristics of China’s fiber raw materials. There is a large requirement for large-scale MC hydraulic pressure disc refiner. However, the large-scale refiner has been monopolized by foreign enterprises as a result of its slow development in China. This hinder the development of China’s paper industry. In order to make our country’s grinding equipment not to be heteronomied, it is necessary to study the large-scale MC refiners.This paper studied on the large-scale MC refiner from the following aspects:(1) The overall design scheme of large-scale MC refiner is determined based on the requirement of previous small-scale refiner in paper plants. The structure design and related calculation was conducted for some parts of large-scale MC refiner. In addition, statics analysis was employed during designing process.(2) Three-dimensional model of many parts of large-scale MC refiner was developed using Solid Works software. The finite element model of refiner shaft, refine room, claw-foot was also developed via Solid Works Simulation. The free modal analysis and constrained modal analysis of the main parts was studied based on finite element method. Besides, the improvement opportunity was proposed for the key parts.(3) The assembly diagram of some parts of MC refiner was built using Solidworks software. The finite element model of refiner shaft, claw-foot was then built using Solidworks Simulation. The free modal analysis and constrained modal analysis of the main mechanism was studied based on finite element method. Statics analysis was also conducted to those mechanism. The analytic results show that the institutions of the vibration characteristics, strength, and stiffness could meet the requirements.(4) The theoretical model of non-parallelism and shaft parameters was established for the grinding disc seat. A set of measuring device was designed to verify the correctness of the mathematical model.The purpose of this study is to provide research ideas and technical instruction for developing large-scale MC refiner.
