Long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear is widely used in the transmission situation of smaller shaft angle, especially in main transmission parts of ships, warships and helicopters as a part of the spiral bevel gear. For its cone distance dimension is very large, long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear is milled on the large scale special purpose machine tool generally, and the process is difficult to realize.Besides, With the rapid development of numerical control technology, the traditional pure mechanical gear cutting machine tool is gradually by CNC gear milling machine and multi-axis linkage NC machining center, which makes the conventional machining method of long-conedistance spiral bevel gears becomes less difficult. Based on the particular structure of long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear, this paper puts forward a method on the processing of long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear which is virtual simulation before actual processing.Based on the NC machining of long-cone-distance spiral bevel gears, the following several aspects of research work in this paper are focus on tooth profile equation deduction, entity modeling establishing, tool path planning,post processing solution, machining process simulation. First of all, Based on the homogeneous coordinate transformation theory and the spatial meshing principle, tooth profile equations of the big and small gears have been deduced by using the Local Synthesis principle, and based on the above work the tooth contact analysis and the solution of tooth surface points by using MATLAB programming, and the solid models of them are established by using Pro/E. Secondly, Analyzing machining features of long-conedistance spiral bevel gear,the selection and the structure of CNC machining tools for long-cone-distance spiral bevel gears are designed,And its three-dimensional models are built with the help of Pro/E. Cutter locations of two gears are calculated by using the CL section method, and generating the corresponding NC cutter location files, the cutter location files are transformed into available for the machine tool NC program through the post processor.Then, The machine tool model and the cutter location files are imported into VERICUT, and setting up the initialization of CNC machining, the cutting processes of two gears of long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear are simulated in VERICUT in order to verify the rationality of the machining tools structure and the accuracy of the NC program. Finally, the experiment of cutting the long-cone-distance spiral bevel gears has been done on a four axis CNC milling machine tool.From the experimental results, the quality and accuracy of the processing of the gears can be satisfied the design requirements.Through the above research, this paper gets rid of the limitation in machining long-cone-distance spiral bevel gear by using traditional machine tool, the use of combining virtual simulation and CNC machining makes a simple process and high processing efficiency.
