In modem injection mold industry, problems such as high cost in mold design and manufacturing, time wasted in replacing molds, too many molds discarded as useless often occur, when serial injection parts with similar structure are being produced. A rapid-replacing core mold design method is brought about as a power solution to the above problems in the paper. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a special injection mold CAD system (KIMDS), which can help to design rapidreplacing core molds, based on the Unigraphics software. The author engages in the following subjects:1.Finishing the overall design of the KIMDS system. According to the general procedure of the injection mold design and the specialized environment of the software and hardware, the author discusses the functional model, assemble model of the system and designs the overall structure and the data flow chart of the KIMDS system.2.Focusing on research on the principle of rapid-replacing core mold design method. The paper introduces the backgrounds of the birth of this design method, and describes the principle of the method in details.3.Studying how to put the rapid-replacing core mold design method into KIMDS system. The main procedures of realizing the method in the KJMDS system are provided in the paper.Comparing with the sophisticated injection mold CAD systems (e.g. IMOLD, PS-MOLD) all over the world, KIMDS has defects in stability, practicability and reliability, for it being developed and debugged, but the ability to design rapid-replacing core molds is the creativity of the system.
