It is a new type of techniques to manufacture MMCs by electromagnetic stirring due to low costs and little skill needs. In this dissertation, the aluminum matrix / tourmaline particulate (Al/TM) composite has been fabricated by electromagnetic stirring technology, and the optimum technology parameters were determined by systemic investigations. The main results were obtained as follows.By observing the different macro-structure made by different method, we found that the method to transport the particles into the aluminum liquid from the bottom made the microstructure compact and the grain well proportioned, but it's inefficient. A new kind of technique to reform the flow field using baffle was designed and put into use by the flow field analysis of electromagnetic stirring on the basis of ANSYS. It is shown that the effect was marked. It is found that the quantity of the particulate entering the melt is best when the amount of Mg in the melt is 2%, magnetic filed intensity is 40mT and the stirring time is 30 minutes. In view of the two-phase flow theory, the critical condition of the particles entering into the melt and the quantitative description of the thermodynamic condition of the engulfed or propelled particles were considered. As a result, the critical rate process of various conditions and the relative movement of the particles against the interface were also given.Structural analysis and mechanical property measurement of the various aluminum matrix / tourmaline particulate (Al/TM) composite were carried out, and the results were discussed. The properties of A1-TM5% are best.
