Cultural Comparison Of Chinese And Western Classical Furniture

The development of Chinese furniture industry is up to now, and face many challenges and difficulties. Despite the Chinese furniture have developed thousand of years; Ming and Qing furniture in China also occupy an important station in the history of world furniture. As a vital thing contacted to humankind' s lives tightly, requested to take place a very big alteration. The Chinese furniture industry would not develop primely unless depends on traditional culture of China in the times of today, use for reference from the modern design means and constitute method of the west. In the paper there are some researching about comparison for adornment characteristic, craft skill, shape characteristic, the standpoint on humanism and the value; the exchanges and influence between two kinds of furniture cultures during different periods. By the transverse study of comparison, makes the characteristic of the western and eastern classic furniture to emerge from it, at the same time we can absorb something from western furniture design to increase the self-identity and self-confidence of the furniture industry to Chinese traditional furniture. On the base of it, I bring forward some viewpoints and standpoints on how to inherit and develop the tradition into the contemporary's design of Chinese furniture.
