Recently a new numeration has arisen in engineering technique field with the rapid development and wide application of computer, which is Finite Element Method (FEM). FEM has been a powerful and important tool to analyze plastic forming process. With the method, not only some factors' affection on forming process, such as friction, material stiffness, variable process parameter, etc. could be understood well, but also lots of mechanical information, such as stress field, strain field, strain rate field etc. could be obtained.This paper studied the plastic forming regularity in valve forging. It briefly introduced the FEM's development, the characteristic and current research situation of valve forging. It also introduced the basic principle and mathematical pattern as well as application technique of Rigid Plastic Element Method. Based on the character of valve forming process, a new method of variable volume and 2-D finite element remeshing is introduced. And an opinion about FEM simulation technique, such as grid aberrant, optimizing point and field variable transference is given. The frame of FEM program was listed in the paper. And the distributing situation of the part's stress, strain and strain rate in different period were worked out. The deformation of the end period was simulated, which was very corresponded with experimental result. In the experiment, the character and the law of the material flow at different period during the forging process was analyzed.All of the experimental and theoretic analyses will provide credible scientific foundation on many sides, including process analysis, parameter selection, etc., When the part is put into production. It is great helpful to shorten develop period, decrease scrap, save research cost and develop intelligent control system.
