Non-contacting-automatic 3D body measurement is the main feature of modernization body measurement technology. This paper analyzed all kinds of untouched body measurement systems home and abroad synthetically; the common obstacles faced by them are high cost, complicated installation, large space and dark room requirement etc. To these problem, we developed Untouched Body Measurement System in 2001, it is a natural light-based system, and use single CCD camera. This system takes the body images as the carrier of detection and transmission, draws the useful 2D anthropometrical information.3D body actual measurement can obtain through mathematic models of body individually. Because the measurement information acquired by 2D-3D transform and can't gain from digital image at first hand, the system can be called "informal 3D" body measurement system.The main contents of this paper touch on edge detection of body digital image, recognition the pivotal points and lines of body, 2D-3D conversion of measurement information and much systematic works. At last, the software designs of this system accomplished.Above all, the paper put forward a new method to detect edge of body that came from image segmentation theory based on threshold of digital image. Having analyzed gray scale histogram of digital image, we use the max variance method based on threshold to find the optimal threshold between body and background. For eliminating the influence disturbed by environmental factors, edge threshold function is conceived, which can adjust automatically according to exposal of digital image. So, the system can detect the edge of body effectively.Secondly, the paper analyzed pivotal points and lines of body and concluded five systematic identifying methods to gain the 2D information of body digital image. They are curvilinear-knaggy-point recognition, extremum recognition, modeling recognition, curve line fitted recognition and approximate arithmetic of curve lengthThirdly, the initial parameters confirmed by system calibration, such as amplificatory ratio K.0 of referenced plane, the movement of calibration center and object distance H etc. So, you can get the actual measurements of body that took photos in the calibration device after suitable transform. We also established lay depth Z formulas of bust and hip circumference and 2D-3D mathematic models of head, neck base girth and thigh circumference. So, 2D digital image information can be transacted by geometry distortion rectifying and perspective & projective image transformation, and 3D body actual measurement can obtain used mathematic models of body individually.The whole system programming language is VB6.0 .the system aimed at young women, we made certain 40 items measured on face and profile images of body. Some items are linear, the others are nonlinear. The measurement result of guest can be wrote to a database or printed as a report forms. The system can also evaluate the figure of guest. The entity of this system has many advantages, for example: simple manipulation, the fast calculation accurately, the cheap cost of the device, the smallspace and the convenient usage. The precision of body measurement can satisfy the requirement of clothing. The untouched body measurement system acclimatizes itself to the new era and has the important practical use value.
