Based on the comprehensive utilization of tobacco waste, nicotine sulfate and activated carbon have been obtained by using tobacco waste in Chongqing cigarette factory.Non-aqueous titration method was adopted to determine nicotine content in tobacco waste. The analysis results show that nicotine content in discarded tabacco leaf and dregs are higher (2.13% and 1.79%, respectively),while stem contains lower (0.38%).using solvent extraction (such as chloroform) method and reextracting with sufuric acid.nicotine sulfate was obtained from the discarded tobacco leaf and dregs. The effect of phase ratio, extraction temperature, time, reextraction temperature on extraction rate has been researched.By chemical method and using zinc chloride as activator, activated carbon was prepared from discarded tobacco. The effect of activated condition on adsorption property and specific surface area has been studied, proper activated condition has found,in the light of the above condition, activated carbon was got from discarded tobacco leaf and dregs. The results showed that it is feasible to prepare activated carbon from discarded tobacco stem , leaf and dregs from which nicotine is extracted. Activated carbons prapared under this condition have good adsorption property ,their iodine values satisfy the requirement of second grade of national standard of botanic activated carbon(GB/T13803.2-l999),their specific surface area exceed 1000m2/g.Using activated carbon from discarded tobacco stem, experiment of adsorbing Cr6+ in water was done. Adsorption speed, the effect of pH on adsorption mass, equilibrium time and model of Cr(IV) adsorption have been researched. We studied the effect of condition prepared activated carbon on capacity of adsorpting Cr(IV) by orthogonal test. The results showed adsorption characteristics to Cr(IV) accords with Bangham formula within 90minutes.The activated carbon have maximum adsorption capacity when pH is about 4,equilibrium time is approximately llhours, and Freudlich isotherm equation can be used to describe the adsoption isotherm. The activated carbon from discarded tobacco stem has good performance to adsorb Cr(IV).The influence order on adsorption capacity(from large to small) is activated agent concentration, temperature and time .The best conditions of preparing activated carbon by orthogonal test is followed as:activated agent concentration is 20%,activated temperature is 600'C, and activated time is 4 hours.
