The effect of impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution, such as NaCl, dimethyallylamine, dimethylamine, dimethyallylamine hydrochloride, dimethylamine hydrochloride, on the polymerizing reactivity of preparing PDA with 30% cationicty was researched in this paper. By consulting the literatures, previous work and the method of GC and AAS, the sorts, content and the range to be tested of the selected impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution were determined.Using monomer solution with high purity prepared in lab as a raw material, the intrinsic viscosity of resultant PDA as testing index, the effect of impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution on the polymerizing reactivity of forming PDA with 30% cationicty was investigated. The results showed that the polymerization of preparing PDA could not happen when the content of dimethyallylamine or dimethylamine were more than 300mg·kg-1 or 40mg·kg-1 in monomer. The polymerization could be carried out well if in the case the content of dimethyallylamine hydrochloride, dimethylamine hydrochloride and NaCl were all less than 1000mg · kg-1 respectively. Therefore, it' s very important to control the content of dimethyallylamine and dimethylamine, strictly in the polymerization.
