Anaerobic bioreactors usually are used as the mainbody units of bio-chemical process in treating high strength organic wastewater, including the Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactor which is the most widly applied and the new highly effective Internal Circulation (IC) reactor. The alcohol industrial wastewater treatment project and antibiotic industrial wastewater treatment project are studied in this paper. The alcohol and antibiotic production process, the wastewater characteristics and the wastewater treatment were briefly discussed, and the theory and technology of anaerobic fermentation, the Internal Circulation reactor were briefly analysed through quantities of literature. The paper mainly studied the start-up and operation performance of the full-scale UASB reactors and IC reactors treating alcohol wastewater, and the operation performance of the UASB reactors and IC reactors treating antibiotic wastewater, and compared the effects of UASB and IC.Through comparing and analyzing the UASB reactor and the IC reactor processing alcohol wastewater and the antibiotic wastewater of the influent organic load, the influent and effluent COD, COD removing rate, VFA, pH, and sludge density parameter, it draws the following conclusion:First, basing on the connection of the organism degradation and cellular compose in the IC, an influent model on organic loads Mn=(1+k)n-1M1. IC reactor and UASB reactor processing alcohol wastewater Ml respectively was 350 kgCOD/d and 100kgCOD/d, the k basis starts the result respectively to achieve 0.039 and 0.028. Therefore the time of the IC reactor start-up is much shorter than theUASB reactor.Second, the organic loads of IC reactor and UASB reactor treating alcohol wastewater were 12.0kgCOD/(m3·d) and 6.0kgCOD/(m3·d), treating antibiotic wastewater were 5.5kgCOD/(m3·d) and 3.0kgCOD/(m3·d). This is due to IC reactor's internal circulation system, which takes high transfer and mass sludge. IC reactor has a higher efficiency than UASB reactor.Third IC reactor effluent COD removal and VFA little changed in treating antibiotic wastewater of reversing tank, while COD removal rate of UASB reactor dropped to below 30% and the VFA concentration increased and volatiled. IC reactor's inner circle flow is far greater than the influent flow, which mixed with the cycled flow at the bottom of the reactor. The harmful substances in wastewater are fully diluted, and harmful level is greatly reduced. Thereby enabling IC reactor is more resistance to shock loading capacity and more stable operation than the UASB reactor.The Internal Circulation Reactor can be operated at high organic load and high space load rate with low investment cost and space occupation compared to UASB reactor when treating same wastewater. It has a promising future in wastewater disposal field.
