Various metal wires processed by drawbenches are widely used in the modern life and production. A drawbench is a mechanical device which can give a pull force to make the flan go through a drawplate and get the corresponding shapes and sizes, and which is able to get to plastic processing of metal wire.In order to satisfy demand of various industries to the metal wires, a part of small and middle-sized private enterprises place themselves to the wire drawing fields, The fact that the drawing equipments in their factories usually are simple, backward and aged can not only make the work more hard and danger, but also cause the product quality bad, the production efficiency low, the energy consumption big and so on. Therefore, the drawing equipments to be transformed are a work that they face. The dynamic velocity modulation is a key technique in a drawbench. Although the motor in velocity modulation has been the considerable progressed in recent years, and has been successfully applied in the large-scale product line of the wire draw, the velocity modulation problem has been far unable to be solved in aspects of mechanical characteristic, cost and power-factor. It is waiting to be solved in some mechanical equipments, too.This paper explains the basic work principle about the drawbench, and introduces its domestic and foreign developments and its current main research. After analyzing work conditions of the drawbench, actual situations of small and middle-sized enterprises in the wire drawing field and some existed methods of velocity modulation, author proposes a new method of velocity modulation in the drawbench. Namely the movements from double motors are synthesized by the differential gear train. The higher power one of two motors provides the main driving force, the lower power one serves as the velocity modulation. Author develops analysis software on the differential gear train with VB, and analyzes the rotational speed, the moment, the power and the efficiency for inputs and output. Appropriate type of the differential gear train, input way of the movement and value range of transmission ratio about the transformed gear train are obtained with considering the range of velocity modulation, reasonable structure and costs of production and so on.On the base of analyzing motor characteristics, author determines the type and capacity of the main motor and the velocity modulation motor and established balance equations of the velocity modulation system. Its mechanical characteristics are obtained by the solution of nonlinear equations. The low rotation in the system is discussed when the DC motor is used as the generator. Finally the differential gear train is carried out the optimal design taking minimum volume of the differential gear train as the goal function, and z_a,b,m as the variables, and the complex method as the optimal method so that results are acquired.
