The basic application, preparation method and surface modification of aluminum paste were illuminated and the process of flaking aluminum powder was studied in theory, choice of raw materials, preparation process, surface modification and confection of metal sparkling paint were discussed in this paper.1. The main raw materials of preparing aluminum paste are aluminum powder and solvent, micron spherical aluminum powder of atomizing was selected by laser particle size analyzer, SEM, and environmental alkane solvent was adopted by flash point tester, moisture analyzer, gas chromatography and mass spectra.2. The optimal process of milling was gained through orthogonal experiments, several main factors including rotational speed,milling time,volume ratio of oil and loading capacity of steel ball were also discussed in course of milling aluminum powder by planetary ball mill; then the squama aluminum powder was analyzed by laser particle size analyzer and effect of the related factors on the shape of aluminum powder were discussed, the optimal process conditions were obtained: rotational speed 460r/min, milling time 6.5h, volume ratio of oil 27.5% and loading capacity of steel ball 750g.3. Surface modification of aluminum powder was implemented through surface modifiers and effects of selection ,species,dosage and usage of surface modifiers were discussed in course of surface modification process, modified aluminum flakes were characterized by SEM,EDS,laser particle size analyzer,et al,dosage of compound surface modifiers were gained(based on 40g aluminum powder): Titanate coupling agent 0.925%(in mass ,the same below), wetting dispersant 1%, oleic acid 2%, and erucic acid 3%.The optimal formula of a class of non-leafing aluminum paste was gained via comparation and compound modification experiment.4. Metallic sparkling paint which was applicable to object surface (tinplate and plastic surface) was prepared and its properties (appearance, mechanical and special) were detected, then a new formula was obtained. 5. Standard system of aluminum paste and its metal paint was established, there are nine detection items for aluminum paste and twelve for aluminum sparkling paint, production of aluminum paste standardized, these were of great significance for consistency of the product produced.
