Hang Jinhou District in Inner Mongolia is seated in arid area, and groundwater is one of its main drinking water sources. The distribution of high-arsenic water in this area is large, and it is arseniasis area. It is one of the areas of most serious endemic arseniasis in Inner Mongolia. High-arsenic water is effecting local people's life and health and living level, and is one of the important factors which restrict the economic development.By means of field survey of geo-environment and groundwater environment and laboratory analysis of groundwater quality, distribution and hydro-chemical properties of groundwater were systematically studied. The results show that the groundwater in the study area is alkalescent water, and the components over standard are total rigidity,SO42-,Cl-,Fe,NO2-,F-,As and TDS. Obtained results show that High-arsenic water is mainly in west and north-west of the study area, where is the central belt of deposition in the Hetao Plain in terms of regional concept. In some local parts, its distribution appears in small patches and the concentration of As varies greatly within a short distance. Values of oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) of all samples are mainly negative, which means it is a reductive environment. Ratio of iron (Fe) over standards of samples from area with High-arsenic water reaches to 84.1 %, much higher than 41.6% which is the ratio of samples from area with low-As-concentration groundwater. Distribution of High-arsenic water in this region has a very close relation to the high-Fe-concentration groundwater.Groundwater quality has the character of regional spatial distribution. GIS are tools to capture, manipulate, process, and display spatial or geo-referenced data. It provides an important path for the research of groundwater matter in district. This text uses Overlay analyst and Geostatistics analyst to assess the groundwater quality. When using Geostatistics analyst, assess sampling groundwater quality by using water quality sanitary comprehensive index firstly, then analyzing the result of assessment, selected the interpolation method to apply to map the groundwater quality. The results show that the groundwater quality in the study area is mainly bad. Finally, the paper discussed the advantages and the existing problems of GIS using in the regional groundwater quality assessment.
