Carbon nanotubes, as a typical representative of nanomaterial, have drawn widespread attention since their discovery because of their distinctive physical and chemical properties and promising application in many fields. Now carbon nanotubes have been one of the hotspots in the nanomaterial field. The adsorption of phenolic and benzene compounds on carbon nanotubes which were produced by catalytic chemical-vapour deposition was studied in this paper. The results showed that the adsorption process for these phenolic compounds on CNTs proved to be driven with physical adsorption characteristic. Finally and the adsorptive capacity of phenolic compounds was p-nitrophenol > p-methoxyphenol > phenol. The adsorptive capacity of benzene compounds was toluene > benzene > nitrobenzene. And the determinant of adsorptive capacity was the adsorptive solubility, molecular structure andπ-πstacking interactions between carbon nanotubes and benzene. In addition, the adsorption of p-nitrophenol on CNTs and purified CNTs was investigated, and the results showed that the adsorption of p-nitrophenol on purified CNTs was easier.
