The forging industry is an important and indispensable part of national economy product and national defense construction, whose products are used widely in a variety of mechanical equipment, military equipment and daily life. Free forging products are in a large proportion of forging products and of irreplaceable. Of all forging products, free forging takes a great proportion and plays an irreplaceable role.Traditional production planning and management has been difficult to meet the free forging enterprises' new demands from markets. The use of computers and information technology to establish a rational and effective production planning management system, improve the management of free forging enterprises and market competitiveness is of great significance.At present, there are few research literatures about production management of free forging industry. This paper deduces the production characteristics of free forging industry based on the analysis on the business units, product processes, production environment, manufacturing mode of free forging industry as well as the problems of production planning and management. And DVR production planning management system is designed with the integration of every solution corresponding with every characteristic of production planning and management. Detailed researches are as follows:(1) OPT theory and DBR principle are combined as the core of production planning (and the theory base of the production management system), in order to adapt the series production of and solve the problems of poor compatibility between planning and execution resulted from empirical and one-off production. (2) A hybrid production planning model is proposed with combination of Order/Invert in order to accept the maximum amount of orders and make the frequent production planning adjustment under the of dynamic and variable environment easier. (3) An integrated production planning management model in dynamic environment suitable for fee forging enterprises is established. New orders can be arranged into production by rolling planning and modified orders can be processed rapidly by the model. Also the deviation between planning and execution can be adjusted constantly. (4) Resource reservation-based delivery date assessment method is proposed to improve the accuracy of delivery date assessment and the interests and image of enterprises as well as the stability of internal production .(5) Additional key technologies are studied including: production planning mathematical modeling, rule-based heuristic optimization algorithm, dynamic plan adjustment strategy, order sorting algorithm by priority when delivery date assessing, Invert algorithm and so on..Based on the above study, DVR production planning management system is developed using J2EE language, B / S structure and SQL Server2000 database.
