In order to obtain unsaturated polyester with more excellent useful performance, different ways can be used to modify unsaturated polyester. Adding nanoparticles during synthesizing progress is one way of them.In this paper, MAP-POSS and V-POSS were used to modify unsaturated polyester resin. The results show that the properties of mechanics and electricity for the fiberglass-reinforced laminate were improved.1.The curing reaction of methylacryloylpropylpolysilsesquioxane (MAP-POSS) and unsaturated polyester (UPR) was investigated by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).The results show that the UPR, styrene and MAP-POSS have well compatibility and can co-cure. MAP-POSS can equably disperse in UPR and form in-situ nano-composites. The curie kinetic parameters were determined and curing kinetic equation was founded.2.Unsaturated polyester resin modified by MAP-POSS has been used as base to make the fiberglass-reinforced laminate. The properties of mechanics and electricity for the fiberglass-reinforced laminate were determined. The results show that the highest mechanical property has been obtained when the mass fraction of MAP-POSS is up to 5%, while the electric property has been improved. The TGA analysis results show that the heat-resistance property hasn't been influenced by the MAP-POSS.The kinetics of thermal degradation was also investigated and the results show that the thermal degradation process can be divided into two stages and both of them follow the first order kinetics.3.The polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes containing-vinyl group (V-POSS) was used to modify the unsaturated polyester resins. The curing kinetics and the relationship of Ea with conversion a were studied by non-isothermal DSC.The curing reaction could be described by autocatalytic Sestak-Berggren (S-B) model and kinetic equations of curing reaction were obtained. Tensile strength of the fiberglass-reinforced laminate increased 17.6kJ-m"2 when the mass fraction of V-POSS is up to 5%.The impact strength is lower with V-POSS increase. The electric properties increase with increasing the content of V-POSS,ρv andρs raise 1-2 orders of magnitude.
