This thesis deals with the development of a concentrated soap-type liquid detergent for fabric through analysis and screening of starting materials, design and optimization of the formulation and performance test. The final product complies with nation standard with respect to concentration of actives, temperature stability and detergency.An optimal procedure for the saponification of hardened coconut fatty acid has been achieved giving 98%conversion using 1.05-1.10 mole ratio of acid to KOH at 60-70℃in about 40 minutes. The final formula consists of fatty alcohol ether sulfates, fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether, hardened coconut fatty acid potassium salt, sodium citrate, sodium xylenesulfonate and some minor additives.The process for the production of concentrated soap-type liquid detergent includes mixing the anionic surfactants, nonionic surfactants, fatty acid soaps, detergent builders and detergent additives in water, followed by addition of aqueous solution of pigments and spices, then the resulting mixture was packaged through the filling-packing machine to afford the final product.The evaluation of commercial property of our concentrated soap-type liquid detergent for fabric, such as the actual dirty cloth washing effects and the actual cleaning foam tests were also conducted and showing comparable or better performance to authentic samples from USA, Japan, Hongkong and domestic producers.
