In most modern hot rolling procedure, the strips are coiled up in continuity. Coiling is the last key production step in hot rolling procedure, which is done by the coilers. It has been proved in production that the working status of coilers has directly influence on how well the production capacity can be realized. The working status of coiling system decides the quality of the finished steel strip products and the production profits. Besides, if the coiling system doesn't work well, there will be great difficulties on the next production steps.The designation of computer system and the programming of the control software for the coiler relates to many modes followed special technics and control strategy. At present, the new and the revamped hot strip mill still depend on foreign technology by signing the general contract or cooperating to foreigner company. We can find some documents about introduction of coiler and one special topic of coiler, but it's difficult to find some documents in deepness and extent. The situation restricted our engineers, standing on an higher beginning point, to recreate and develop the control system totally independently for our own patent rights.In this paper, taking the coilers in Baosteel 2050 hot rolling line as an example, we talk about the buildup of the computer system, which including the system selection,system building, com and net configuration; the designation of the software, which including, the setup of the customer program and the function distribution of each processor module; the realization of transformation and optimization from special control technics to softerware for coiler, which comprising of the material tracing, the harmony of the coilers'status; the speed and torque reference of the mandrel, pinchroll and wrapperroll, the calculation of coil diameter, brake distance, the positioning of the mandrel, the hydraulic servo control, the most important part, named wrapperroll's"step running", the deflection of servo system and so on. Through the many parts above, we describe and analyze the system constitution, programming strategy, the forming of processing software for the computer system.;realize the application of computer system on industrial unit.The content offered by this paper is also useful and significant use for reference in research work in future. In the hot strip mill field, it also has a good reference value for independent domestic development of coiler unit's computer system and realization of more technical advance for our own patent rights.
