jen and li, as well as the relationship between the tension constitute the core of Confucianism. Studying Confucianism has two ways:one is from jen to li and other is from li to jen. Here we choose the latter approach. We can first expound Confucius's "Ritual thinking" and then achieve the understanding of his "benevolence".As an important part of Confucianism, Confucius's li inherits the essence of the formation of "Chou li". This inheritance is not only following the etiquettes of social norms at that time, but also inheritting the "Chou li" which embodied in the patriarchal clan ethical norms and moral rules. At the same time, Confucius creatively puts forward the saying of "loss", innovates "Chou li " from reality,and further he expands the "li" in the value of its content, social functions and outreach field. Finally he culminates "jell" and "li" together as the core of the feudal ethical and moral values which can inherit interoperabily. In the transformation period of that time, in order to deal with the disorder of social management and the tension of man to man relationship, Confucius puts forward a new management concept of organic combination of ethics and management ruling by proprieties. He implanted some new content into the Zhou rites, paying more attention to building an orderly harmonious society. His thought of ruling by proprieties links up benevolence, harmony and proprieties.Propriety, as the core of Confucianism, has been respected and developed by Confucianism scholars who followed Confucius. Mencius, Xun Zi, Han classical studies, Neo-Confucianism and Contemporary Neo-Confucianism all interpretate and criticise Confucius' benevolence thought and do some new plays and transformation. These doctrines not only improve and develop the Confucian system but also provide a vaster area for the research of the modernization of Confucian.In short, " li" plays a significant role in the stability of feudal social order for several thousand years and its funcation can not be ignored. Nowadays, when we criticise and improve Confucianism, especially the thinking of Confucius'" li " from generation to generation, after the layers of analysis, we only find its value, in terms of sharping the national character and in the actual funcation of prosperousing country, has yet to be digging deeper and further promoted. In this paper, the author analysizes the source of Confucius " li" of thinking and conducts it in deep analysis of its intrinsic value in order to explore its most fundamental meaning to criticiaely inherit and carry forward the "propriety" of the content (the wind of order and the gentleman) and the value of modern society, "li" in epitaxy (ritual).More than 2000 years ago, Confucius faces up to the time of "courtesy collapse and music bad", through doing some profit and loss of "Chou li", creat" li" ing his own"li" system in order to save the current ills. Today, we still need to learn from his attitude, inheritting the outstanding essence of ancient ritual culture, on the other hand, getting rid of its outdated dross, as well as benefitting it with the new elements of modern civilization, thereby creating a new ritual culture is needed in our time. So that we can make our country which is called self-proclaimed ceremonies shine the spark of its splended modern civilization in ancient times.
