Objective: The disease about gastrointestinal dyskinesia is a common disease in digestive outpatient clinic, which mail pathophysiology is delayed gastric emptying and weakened Vermiculation. But these are based on gastrointestinal myoelectric dysthythmias, so recovering gastrointestinal myoelectric and strengthening gastrointestinal motility are key to treatment these diseases. At present, there are side effects of all kind of drugs to some extent. And patients, who need these drugs, are all older. For this reason, we do our best to find drugs of little side effect. The Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is of ancient origin and long development in the field of gastrointestinal motility. When it comes to treatment, it has lots of successful experiences and unique concept of gastrointestinal dyskinesia. Meanwhile, there are not only abundant in herbal Chinese drugs, but also little side effects of its. Therefore, more and more people think highly of TCM. In addition to effect of activate the blood and disperse stasis, Zedoary have the effect of remove stagnation and stop pain. Combining the achievement of modern medicine with advanced experiment, we observe the effect of zedoary on gastric motility of experimental rats, and investigate its mechanism. Methods: The animal model of electrogastric dysthythmias was established by irregular food intake plus feeding of diluted hydrochloric acid. The rats were randomly divided into four groups and fed respectively with saline, 25% zedoary decoction, 50% zedoary decoction, 10% motilium suspension. Meanwhile, the model was compared by the control. 28 days later, the emptying and myoelectrical activity were measured, the contents of Motilin(MTL), Substance P(SP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP) in antrum and jejunum tissue were detected with radioimmunoassay and immunohistochemical method.Results:1. The effect of zedoary on gastric electrical activity: Compared with the normal control, the coefficient of variability of slow waves and dysrhythmia index of the model groups are all higher (P<0.01), but the frequency of slow waves have insignificant difference in statistics. After treated with 25% zedoary decoction and 10% Motilium Suspension, the coefficient of variability of slow waves and dysrhythmia index are lower than the model groups with insignificant difference (P<0.01). After treated with 50% zedoary decoction, the coefficient of variability of slow waves and dysrhythmia index are lower than the model groups with insignificant difference.2. The effect of zedoary on gastric emptying: Compared with the normal control, the gastric emptying rate of rat model are lower (P<0.01). After treated with 25% zedoary decoction and 10% Motilium Suspension, the gastric emptying rate are recovered with significant difference in comparing with the model groups (P<0.01). After treated with 50% zedoary decoction, the gastric emptying rate are only higher than the model groups but with no insignificant difference.3. The effect of zedoary on the distributions of MTL and VIP in antrum and jejunum: Compared with the normal control, antrum and jejunum tissue levels of MTL of the animal model reduced , but antrum and jejunum tissue had higher VIP levels(P<0.01, P<0.05). After treated with 25% zedoray decoction, the aforesaid data were near normalized with insignificant difference in comparing with the model groups. But D groups treated by 50% zedoray decoction had no significant improvement.4. The effect of zedoary on the distributions of SP and VIP in antrum and jejunum: Compared with the normal control, the expressions of SP decreased significantly and the expressions of VIP increased significantly in antrum and jejunum tissue of the animal model (P<0.01). After treated with 25% zedoray decoction, the aforesaid data were nearnormalized with insignificant difference in comparing with the model groups. But group D treated by 50% zedoray decoction had no significant improvement. Conclusion: 25% zedoray d...
