Objective: To study the acting mechanism on improving sympt oms of climacteric syndrome through observing the effects on re productive endocrine, immune function and free radical metaboli sm of climacteric rats of Guishen pill. Methods: Female SD rats without pregnancy of 3-4 month-old were divided into pseudo-operated group and castrated group. Ca strated group were given treatments of high-dose, middle-dose G uishen pill and Fufuchun capsule respectively besides some rats without medicine. After being given medicine for twenty days, the rats were killed , then serum E2,FSH, LH, IL-2, SOD, GSH-PX, MDA level and quantity of thymus and spleen were measured. Results: Guishen pill can obviously increase the content ofserum IL-2 of castrated rats. It also can increase serum SOD and GSH-PX and decrease MDA level without changing serum E2 leve1 of castrated rats. It has no significant effects on hypothalamus-adenohypophys is.Conclusion: To sum up, the acting mechanism of Guishen pillis probably not supplementing outside-body estrogen directly but indirectly improving immune function and free radical metabo1 ism to improve clinic symptoms of climacteric women to achievethe goal of curing climacteric syndrome.
