| Nowadays, the integration of natural science and the humanities is a hot subject in the field of education, ledical science has the dual characteristics of both natural science and the humanities, therefore, the humanistic uality education for medical students is receiving more and more attention.Medical technology has boomed recently and the medical science is transforming towards a biosocial bsychological mode along with the coming of the age of market and information economy. However, the present conditions of medical ethics and work style are not so satisfying. Since ancient times, world medical education has experienced a primitive integration and a separation of liberal arts and specialized course, and now it is again receiving an integration but on a new plane. This development has well enlightened us on today's humanistic quality education for medical students: only by the integration of liberal arts and specialized course can werestore the basic medical purpose--to respect and to care for life. However, in China, the present state ofhumanistic education in the field of medical science is far from satisfying, and there is a long way to go. The conception of the integration of liberal arts and specialized course has not been fully accepted. The investment in the construction of medical humanities is deficient, including the proportion of class hour and qualified teachers. The educational content is knowledge-oriented and the teaching method is dry and dull. More emphases are laid on the organization form rather than on the real effect. Consequently, the deficiency of humanistic quality remains the most projecting problem against the overall development of medical students.We should make out our own humanistic quality education policy, which accords with the practical need, developmental speed, cultural characteristics and educational pattern of our country, by learning from the former experience and the mode of western developed countries. First, renew the object of medical quality education to make up a green academic atmosphere. Either the mergence of medical college with college of arts or comprehensive university, or the medical college's development of multiple subjects will enhance the humanistic quality of medical students. Second, strengthen the teaching of the humanities and the subject construction in medical college and ensure the fundamental role it plays. Third, attach importance to the construction of teaching staff and heighten teachers' humanistic quality. At the present time, lifelong learning should be encouraged and the continuing education for college teachers aiming at raising their cultural quality should also be promoted. Forth, lay emphasis on the construction of invisible courses and enhance the cultural taste of medical college. Be clear about the position medical college stands and intensify its cultural features: erudition, elegance, order, vividness, charity. Students will be imperceptibly influenced under such an environment that people here are knowledgeable, refined, spirited, equal and ready to help each other, In a medical college saturated with humanistic atmosphere, they will gradually cultivate the medical humanistic spirit definitely. |
