Verbena officinalis L. (Verbenaceae) was an important folk herb medicine. Three parts of researching work to water soluble chemical constituents of Verbena officinalis L. are included in the dissertation. The first part is the separation of verbenalin and hastatoside, which are two main water soluble chemincal constituents of Verbena officinalis L.. The second part is the study of their analytical methods, extraction and isolation conditions. The third part is the structural modification of the two glucosides.1. Verbenalin (also named cornin) and hastatoside are the important immunore-gulational compounds of Verbena officinalis L., and verbenalin is a prominent constituent of Cornus officinalis, which is one specie of Liuwei Dihuang Wan, which is a well-known Chinese traditional patent medicine and widely used. The water soluble chemical constituents of Verbena officinalis L. have been investigated. Two important compounds, verbenalin and hastatoside, have been isolated from the alcohol extract of the whole grass.2. HPLC quantitative analysis methods of verbenalin and hastatoside (mobile phase was H2O-CH3CN (90:10, v/v) and flow rate was 1 mL/min) were studied and established. The SPE (solid phase extracton) pretreatment method of the extract of Verbena officinalis L. was confirmed, too.The extraction condition of the two compounds, that a 10-g dried grass was extracted with 75 ml 80% ethanol at 60℃ for 12 h and extracted for three tirnes,...
