Objective To observe the survival of the corneal implant, the changes of thebiochemistry of rabbit aqua oculi and the changes of structure in the angle of anteriorchamber following the replacement of cornea endodermis with auto vascularendodermis with elastic layerMethods Rabbits were divided into four groups. Group A: vascular endodermis withelastic layer was removed from unilateral jugular vein, sticked to the cornea implantwithout endodermis of left eye; and then the combined implant was transplanted intoautogeneic right cornea hole. Group B: the cornea implant without endodermis of lefteye was transplanted into right autogeneic cornea hole. Group C: left cornea withouttreatment was transplanted into autogeneic right cornea hole. Group D: normal rabbitswithout treatment. The implants in each group were observed whether transparent ornot every day after corneal transplantation. On the day 1, 3, 5, 7and14 after surgery, right aqua oculi was collected and subjected to protein and ionic level determination. For group D, aqua oculi was directly collected. On the day 7 and 14 after surgery, eyeballs collected from group A and D were made into sections to observe thechanges of structure in the angle of anterior chamber. Results The corneal implants in group A were in the condition of opacitas in 6.0±1.07 days after surgery, and the anterior chamber could be seen unclearly. Theopacitas of corneal implant could be seen relieve 6.0±1.07 days later, and the angleof anterior chamber could be seen clearly 11.0±1.41 days later after surgery. Thecorneal implants in group B were still in opacitas. The corneal implants in group C were in the state of edema in 3.7±0.82 days afer surgery, and the edema could berelieve 3.7±0.82 days later. The anterior chamber could be seen clearly 7.6±0.84days later. The corneas in group D were still in transparency. There were no differencein the level of Na~+,K~+,Cl~- and Ca~+ in group A, B, C and D. The concentration ofglobin, albumin and total protein in group A, B and C went up in 7 days, and washigher than that in group D. The level of globin and albumin in group B was higherthan other groups on the day 14 after surgery. The concentration of albumin and totalprotein in group A went up on the day of 14, and was higher than that in group C andD. There was no difference in the changes of structure about angle of anteriorchamber between group A and D.Conclusion The barrier function of cornea endodermis could be replaced by the samefunction of auto vascular endodermis with elastic layer at the given time. The barrierfunction of auto vascular endodermis with elastic layer could maintain cornealimplant transparency. There was no influence on the level of Na~+,K~+,Cl~-and Ca~+ inaqua oculi after transplant surgery of replacement. The level of proteins went up in 7days, the level of globin was kept in the state of relative stablilization in 14 days, andthe concentration of albumin and total protein went up on the day of 14 aftertransplant surgery of replacement. There were no changes of structure about angle ofanterior chamber after transplant surgery of replacement.
