Age - related Macular Degeneration (AMD) also called Senile Macular Degeneration (SMD), is focused widely as the chief disease causing blind in Occident. AMD is the denaturalized disease always found on the RPE, Bruch's, and choroidal neovascularization of elder over forty five. AMD mainly can be divided to 2 classification: dry and humid. Dry AMD, also called atrophic AMD, with the performance of hard and soft dusond,retinal pigment epithelium map depauperation, and the humid AMD, also called exude AMD, with choroidal neovascularization (CNV) as its feature display. Investigations indicate that AMD causes blind due to CNV forming under macular retina, especially retina bleeding and other complications caused by humid AMD. AMD is investigated to related with age,metabolic disorder,light damage,oxidative damage,Inflammatory reaction and so on .So far there is no perfect curative medicine and treatment. AMD may has relations to hypertension, high levels of lipids in the blood, diabetes, immunity system disease and other whole body diseases.D. From traditional medicine view, AMD can be divided into 4 types:①Insufficiency of vital energy and blood,dys-splenism;②Insufficiency of liver and kidney,qi-stagnancy and blood stasis;③Insufficiency of liver and kidney,phlegmatic hygrosis trouble the top;④asthenia of both yin and yang,phlegm and blood stasis to congeal.(2) Macular DegenerationⅠFang for humid AMD has a significant clinical effect. Patients vision,system situation,fundus examination and FFA display were improved after than pre treatment(P<0.01). CONCLUSION:(1) AMD is found to related with age, profession, hours using eye per day, smoking, dirking, hypertension, high levels of lipids in the blood, diabetes, immunity system disease and other whole body diseases.
