The experience of treatment of stroke in TCM theory was generated with the practice of a number of ancient doctors more than2000 years ago. Many TCM doctors considere that blood stasis due to qi deficiency is the basic pathgenesis of acute ischemic stroke . And the treating methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulation become more and more popular in its treatment .It has such a profound connotation, that it is one of the most precious wealth descended by our ancestors to us. With the development of our society, people pay more and more attention to health. As it was predicted by Soviet medical historian in the 20th century, that next century will be a century of health. The way to keep health and to prevent disease needs the guidance of the TCM Prevention Theory.Although TCM has been used in China and the other countries around, it hasn't been acknowledged by all the western countries. This is mainly because that the treatment principle and therapy system of TCM are not based on the western pathophysiology. WHO proposes evidence-based traditional medicine and emphasizes that it should be followed the method of evidence-based medicine, from the formulation of the basic drug catalog to the clinical research and practice, so as to provide the traditional medical service and public health service with scientific evidence. Thus, Evidence-based Chinese Medicine becomes an inevitable tide in medical field. This study focuses on two parts: a. theoretical study on the Evidence-based Ch-inese Medicine. In this part , the problems of how to develop Evidence-based Chinese Medicine are discussed and theory of integration disease and syndrome is explained ; b. systematic review on the effectiveness and the safety of med-icine in treating methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulati for acute ischemic stroke .1. Literature review:Review one includes all the TCM methods and theories on treatment of acute ischemic stroke; Review two talks mainly about the treating methods and princ-iples of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulation in its treatm-ent .2. Theoretical study:Theoretical study one discuss the Evidence-based Chinese Medicine and gives some advices . In study two, the problems of how to develop Evidence-b ased Chinese Medicine are contact with the theory of integration disease and syndr-ome.3. Systematic review:The treating methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulation for acute ischemic stroke.(1)BackgroundThe treating methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulation become more and more popular in its treatment . But it hasn't been acknowledged by all the western countries ,so it should followe the method of evidence-based medicine .(2)ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the effectiveness of treating methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promoting blood circulati for acute ischemic stroke .(3)Search strategyStudies were obtained from computerized searches of multiple electronic bibliog.-raphic databases, supplemented by hand searches of selected journals, and cons-ultation with experts in the research field of stroke.(4)Selection criteriaRandomized controlled trials and quisa-randomized trials of acute ischemic stro -ke reported (published or unpublished) in any language.(5)Data collection and analysisTwo reviewers read all abstracts, assessed quality (according to Schulz and Jad-ad)and extracted data independently. Discrepancies were resolved by consensus or by the judgment of a third reviewer.(6)Main resultsTwelve trials are included. The general methodological qualities of most of the trials are relatively poor. The results of meta-analysis (sixteen studies) show si-gnificant differences between treatment of methods and principles ofreinforcin-g qi and promoting blood circulation and western medicine. ( OR 3.54, 95%CI 2.41 to 5.21) (7)Authors' conclusionsIn conclusion, treatment of methods and principles of reinforcing qi and promo-ting blood circulation and western medicine .But more efforts based on eviden-ce-based medicine (EBM) and clinical epidemiology (DME) should beapplied in the clinical research of the treatment of methods and principles of reinforce-ng qi and promoting blood circulation to explore its clinical value under mod-ern medical context.
