Chen Jiasui was famous for his poems and drawings in the later Ming Dynasty. Not expert in making money, Chen was leading a poor life without even a penny. He had no choice but to rush for livelihood everywhere and to have social intercourse among public figures. Not only did Chen's drawings profit by trading, they were also the gifts for friends to thank for the given help or for a true friend's understanding. This paper serially analyzes Chen's whole lifetime, his social life and the function of his social drawings. Based on the analysis, the possible relationship between Chen's drawing style and the circumstances of his social intercourse is under further discussion. Faced with more and more people asking him of the drawings, plus many of his promises on drawings, Chen took Ni's landscape as his main style, drawing the pictures on the surface of a Chinese fan mostly. His drawings were quickly accomplished with several strokes when he was in a drunken mood, in that way his own style of social drawings was formed.
