College Students Parenting Style And Their Mental Health Research

There are three hundred undergraduates from freshmen to seniors who were investigated with Chinese version of EMBU and SCL?0 scales in order to test the features of their parenting style, mental health conditions and the relationship between them. According to the research, I draw the following conclusions: First, there exists sex difference between male undergraduates? parenting style and female undergraduates?parenting style. Among father?s rearing style punishment and strictness towards male students is significantly higher than female students, but favoring subject and rejection is significantly lower than female students. Among mother?s style rejection towards male students is significantly higher than female students; Educational level of parents is a important factor influencing their rearing style. Secondly, the rate of mental problems among undergraduates isl7%; There are less significant differences among four grades in the levels of undergraduates?mental health and each kind of symptom factor. Paranoid among them exists significant sex difference. Male students?symptom is more serious than female students? The other factors doesn?t exist significant differences. Third, undergraduates?parenting style is a important factor influencing their mental health and different parenting styles have different influence on children mental health; The influence of parenting style on undergraduates?mental health comes to the same thing; Among parenting style emotional warmth is positive style and rejection, over involvement, punishment, strictness and favoring subject are negative one; Father rearing style (emotional warmth, over involvement, favoring subject and overprotection) and mother?s rearing style (rejection) have more important influence on children?s mental health than the other dimensions.
