This chapter, through examining testimonies and conducting interviews of Manchurian Koreans, and consulting the Japanese document " Sketch of Manchurian Koreans " interprets the living state and the social status of Koreans, Japanese attitudes towards Koreans, the relationship between Koreans and Hans.In the concluding part, the paper briefly summarizes thehistorical immigration process, the poor living conditions: the conflict with other nations, and the complex social status of Koreans. Finally, it asserts that all this attributes to Japanese Imperialism. In fact, ordinary people are always victims of warfare. Therefore, the thesis, making use of the examination of Koreans in Manchurian times, intends to appeal for peace, and to warn Japanese against the repetition of history, in the meanwhile the study is expected to contribute to construction of friendly Sino-Japanese relationship. In Japan, publications on the immigration process and living modes of Manchurian Koreans are increasing gradually within five years. Besides, the recent trouble between Japan and Korea help promote the interest of Japanese people in Manchurian Koreans. In China, YanBian University and YanBian social sciences Institute take a lead in the studies on Koreans. However, none of research is engaged in the study of Manchurian Koreans. The dominant research on Chinese Koreans in Japan can be dividedly into: the Ethnic Identity and National Identity perspectives. It is proposed that these two points of view constitute the future analysis for they can better demonstrate the identity of Koreans and historical mission of Chinese people, (see Quan XiangShu 2001 "Research on Korean Nations in China" Asian Research Vol.47, No.3)... |
