| HeLin was the last Neo-Confucianist with original academic spirit before the 1950's, whose theory of "Xin Xin Xue" was an overall summary of the traditional and latest Confucianism. This thesis tries to expound the epoch significance and theoretical value of his culture-philosophy of his early "Xin Xue" in the following five aspects:Firstly, his theory system of "Xin Xin Xue" was a modern development of the internal logic of Confucianism as well as the result of blending Chinese and Western philosophies, especially Lu Xiang-san and Wang Yang-ming's "Xin Xue" and Neo-Hegelianism.Secondly, he was engaged in sorting out and summing up various Neo-Confucianist thoughts for a long time. In the meantime, he constantly analyzed and criticized various academic trends and paid special attention to absorbing Western "Orthodox Philosophies" to bring about their native transformation so that he was able to find an absolute solution to the problem of "Ti and Yong" by which Confucianists were puzzled when they met the epoch challenge.Thirdly, the modern transformation of Confucianism must be in conformity with the academically logic requirements so that it can solve the problems of culture, politics and life in China.Fourthly, the aim of inquiring into the national cultural heritages is to obtain new value resources and reassume the covered meaning system and the cultural truth of Confucianism. In order to accelerate the modern transformation of Confucianism, it is necessary to absorb widely the traditional resources of the various schools of thought and their exponents during the period from pre-Qin times to the early years of the Han Dynasty.Fifthly, it is necessary to re-annotate "the Five Moral Principles" and adapt the Western culture to the Chinese culture so that Confucianism can be replenished.Cherishing the respect of the Chinese traditional culture and modern academic spirit, HeLin did a lot of jobs for the purpose of Confucianism development. His theory-building activities pushed the Chinese learning and culture forward to a more mature theory development stage. |
