Ecocriticism is the study of the relationship between literature and the physical environment. It is one of the most recent interdisciplinary fields to have emerged in literary and cultural studies. In my thesis, I criticize aboriginal contemporary literature in Taiwan from the vision of ecocriticism; analyze the natural ecology, the spiritual ecology and the consciousness of regression of the aboriginal peoples. There are five parts in my thesis. The first chapter is the introduction, which summarizes the history of the aboriginal peoples in Taiwan, and hackles the venation of their contemporary literature. After reviewing the internal and external researches in this field, I expatiate the research view of mine. To probe into the influence in physical and psychic aspect on the aboriginal peoples in Taiwan, the second chapter expounds their simple naturalism and the taste of their aesthetic tendency. In the process of modernization, the aboriginals barge up against many difficulties, which include the fell of value and the puzzle of national-identity. Compare with the breakage in natural ecology, the pollution of spiritual ecology is more disturbing. Considering all these, the third chapter reflects the living crisis of the aboriginals in Taiwan from the view of spiritual ecology. Facing all these problems caused by modernization, the sensitive writers dream of the regression to their spiritual homestead. The fourth chapter expatiates the theme and reverie on ecocriticism, which is the regression to spiritual homestead. The aboriginal writers in Taiwan devote themselves to chasing the track of their ancestors, longing for reconstructing the natural confidence, and residing poetically in their eternal tribe. The last chapter is conclusion, in which the theme and practical meaning are summarized. It also put forward the expansion of this research.
