As a writer, GuoMoruo wrote both autobiographies and autobiographic novels. According to their names, both of them are corresponding to and referring to the true life of the writer, from which the close relationship between these two genres can be seen.First, as the study of Guo's autobiographies is relatively weak compared with the study in his poems and historical dramas, it will have constructive meaning to have a try on these two genres with comparative method. Guo's self-image is the core of my analyzation.Second, how to remark GuoMoruo has become a popular topic during these years. According to the facts of Guo's complicated personality, it is necessary to dig into Guo's inner world and find out the secrets of his self-construction and self-expression. My essay begins with all the possible aspects of Guo's self-images and ends with the reason-finding of their difference.Part I Portrait of diverse self-image of GuoMoruoIn Guo's autobiographic novels, he showed two faces in the texts: an ordinary intelligent in lower class and a degrading man. But in his autobiographies, he acted as a genius in poem and a political VIP in Chinese history who had noble personalities. Obviously, Guo's self-identity trended toward the ideal-self and public-self in his autobiographies as well as it trends to the real GuoMoruo in the realities. As Freud's Psychoanalisis proposed that one has ego, self and superself in his persona, we found that Guo manifested his ego a lot in his autobiographic novels, yet hid it in his autobiographies where self and superself were the winners.Part II The reasons of difference of the above self-imagesFirst of all, Guo's personality not only was complicated, but also varied in different periods, which made his self-image varied in different genres accordingly.Second, Guo's autobiographies absorbed western spirits as well as they had special styles of Chinese autobiography. Actually, GuoMoruo established a new style of Chinese autobiography in which he could erect his ideal-self and public-self. In the mean time, he chose autobiographic novels to express his experiences in the realities.Third, autobiographies and autobiographic novels have different fiction strategy respectively , which leads the readers towards different direction to understand Guo's self-image.
